Ice, I miss you.

the little things you miss while living abroad

Having lived in Germany for a year now, I’ve come to realize just how much I used to love ice.

Our refrigerators don’t have ice makers, our freezers aren’t big enough for a bag of ice, and everywhere we go they serve our drinks plain or with a little slice of lemon (without being asked).

We have been to a McDonald’s a couple of times that claimed to serve ice but when they served it to us, they literally only put about four ice cubes in each of our cups. Seeing our ice (individually) swimming in our cups has definitely been a new experience for us but we’ve learned not to complain because something is better than nothing.

Oddly enough, I’ve already adapted to luke warm drinks (and no free refills). Yes, I’ve mastered the art of slowly sipping my ONE glass of iceless drink to last the duration of my entire meal without choking or dying of thirst.

Anyway, on the bright side, Germany is filled with a million other things to love, like their freshly baked and incredibly soft brotchen and the most amazing gelato I’ve ever had.

Annnd, it’s finally Oktoberfest season again!

Can’t wait for the first fest of the season. 🙂
